Allies to All-Women in Leadership Network
Driving change, one ally action at a time.
About the Network
A cross sector community of practice where leaders learn, connect and act so women-across all cultural backgrounds and intersectional identities can thrive.
The Allies to All-Women in Leadership Network is a cross-sector community of practice where leaders come together to learn, exchange ideas, and share experiences that foster inclusive leadership behaviours.

The idea of the Network was first sparked at the Women Connect event in November 2023, where leaders explored the power of allyship for women in leadership. Building on that momentum, the Network was formally launched in March 2024 with a keynote by Australian Public Service Commissioner Dr Gordon de Brouwer. Our inaugural patron is Simon Newnham, Deputy Secretary at the Attorney-General’s Department.

At its core, the Network is guided by two philosophies:

-
Systemic change requires deliberate and sustained efforts by those who hold intrinsic power and privilege.

-
Enduring cultural change begins with individuals - their choices, actions, and commitments.

Who Can Join?
Membership is open to people who recognise their privilege - or relative privilege - and are willing to take intentional ally actions to advance gender equity and inclusion. While men often hold systemic privilege, so too do others at different stages of their careers.

We welcome members from across the public, private, university, and non-profit sectors.
What Are Ally Actions
Ally actions are everyday behaviours that use privilege to create a more level playing field. They make space for women and other underrepresented groups to contribute their best.

For example:

-
Speaking up in a meeting to hold space for a woman whose voice is being interrupted.

-
Advocating for fair recognition of contributions and opportunities.

-
Challenging assumptions or biased practices that disadvantage women.
How We Connect
-
Events: The Network meets in Canberra 2–3 times a year for in-person gatherings featuring panels and keynote speakers on allyship.
-
Community: Members engage between events by sharing questions, resources, and best practices through our online platform, moderated by Coaching Alliance Group.
-
Open Access: Non-members are welcome at events, with the hope they’ll be inspired to join and commit to allyship.
Network resources
The Network maintains a Hot tips for Ally Actions resource that comprises a menu of practical Ally Actions that people can take in various scenarios. This document is a living resource that is enriched by insights from speakers, panel members and attendees at each Allies event. Link
